Room Changes

Changes During The Semester
Room changes during the academic semesters are overseen by the Community Director for your area of campus. Requests must be submitted in the Housing Portal up until the housing freeze period.
We highly encourage you to review this step-by-step guide about how to submit that request.
Before submitting a request, please keep in mind:
- Room changes are not guaranteed and depend on available spaces.
- Your request will be reviewed and must be approved by your Community Director.
- If you are requesting a room change related to a disability-related accommodation, please follow the process outlined on our Accommodations page.
- If your request is related to a roommate concern or conflict, your Community Director will work with you through a mediation process before a room change is considered.
If you have questions about the room change process or are unsure where to start, please don’t hesitate to contact us at or reach out to your Community Director.

Block Housing
To request a room change to or within a Block Housing community, the group leader for your group must complete an updated roster and submit that to Residence Life and Housing.
- Students may be allowed to move within their designated housing blocks; however, students are typically not permitted to move out of their housing block.
- Finally, students who change rooms into a housing block are assigned to that space for the remainder of the academic year.
Please note this process does not apply to first-year students.
If you have (or expect to have) a vacancy in your room or unit and want to request a specific student to fill the space, please review the information below. These requests are due October 28 by 9 a.m. on the Housing Portal.
Current Fall Vacancies
- If you would like to be pulled into a current open space, please use the existing Room Change Process and select that you have an exact space you would like to move to.
- If you are pulling in a student who is currently abroad during Fall 2026, submit your request through the Spring Pull-In Request process.
Expected Spring Vacancies
- Only students currently studying abroad in Fall 2026 may be requested for spaces becoming vacant at the end of the fall semester.
- Submit requests through the Spring Pull-In Request process
Multiple Vacancies
If your unit has multiple vacancies, please coordinate with your group leader and submit one pull-in request.
If you need assistance with this process, please review our step-by-step guide.
Block Housing
To request to pull-in a study abroad student into a current or upcoming vacancy in your Block Housing community, the group leader for your group must complete an updated roster and submit that to Residence Life and Housing by October 28 at 8 a.m.
For students currently abroad:
If you are hoping to be pulled into a vacancy that currently exists or will exist for Spring 2027, please ensure that the remaining on-campus resident has submitted a pull-in request asking for you to be pulled in by October 28.
You will receive an email stating that you have been requested to be pulled into a space and you will need to then accept that pull-in.
To request to be pulled into Block Housing, please contact your group leader who will work with our office to update the roster for the Spring semester by the October 28 deadline as well.
Pull-in requests are requests and cannot be guaranteed. We do our best to honor as many requests as possible, but this may not always be possible due to various factors.
Students who are requested to be pulled into a space will receive an email from Residence Life and Housing by November 18, 2026, confirming whether they have been placed in that space.
In support of students with disabilities, Residence Life and Housing has a wide variety of housing and dining options on-campus that can accommodate the vast majority of disability needs.
Students who need to request disability-related accommodation should visit our website to begin the request process. For the Spring term, all students should provide complete documentation for consideration by November 15.
Students returning from abroad should pay particular attention to question four on the request form, which asks, “Have you previously requested accommodations for the CURRENT functional limitation? If so, what specific accommodations were provided? If not, what are the specific reasons for requesting it now?”.
In most circumstances, the University is able to provide reasonable accommodations that allow the student to fulfill the University’s residency requirement without an early release. In the request process, students should specify their housing needs (e.g., single room, limited-use kitchen), not a preference for “off-campus”.
Any student currently assigned to campus housing who is leaving Wake Forest University for any reason (e.g., to attend a spring study abroad program, continuous enrollment, withdrawal, transfer) must complete an intent to vacate on the Housing Portal under the “Update My Information” section.
If you need assistance with this process, please review our step-by-step guide.
